Paging and Sound Systems Overview
Before I.T.I. was an Internet service provider, before I.T.I. was a data network
integrator, before I.T.I. was the leading telephone equipment vendor in Michigan known as
"The Other Phone Company", I.T.I. was an Executone sound equipment dealer. We're
talking roots here -that was over 37 years ago. We've come a long way since then but our
expertise in sound system design and installation remains.
Paging systems offer many benefits including: increased productivity, professional
image, better customer service through greater accessibility to people, increased revenue
with fewer lost orders, and reduced long-distance call backs. Background music
increases productivity (major background music suppliers claim 15% rise) and increases
conversation privacy.
Telephone paging systems seem pretty simple at first glance. You connect a paging
amplifier to your telephone system and to a bunch of speakers, you press a button on your
telephone and voilà, you're paging. In reality, there
is a lot of design expertise involved in creating a good paging system. After all, you
don't want a system that you can't hear in one room but then "blasts" you when
you're in another. Nor do you want a system that is so muddled it sounds like the teacher
in the Charlie Brown specials, "Whaa whhaa, wha, wha, wha, whaaaa".
Whether your environment is as quiet as an empty library or as noisy as a large
stamping factory, I.T.I. can design a system that will have clean, clear sound. Our paging
system designs take into consideration: ambient and peak noise sound pressure
measurements, room dimensions, ceiling height, and your specific design and integration
goals.

Telephone Systems Supported
There are several ways to interconnect telephone and paging systems. The better
telephone systems have external paging ports built in while others require a converter for
an analog trunk, an analog station, or a digital station interface. All telephone systems that are sold by I.T.I have one or more
direct paging ports, including:
- Samsung iDCS Family
- Samsung DCS Family
- Tadiran Coral Family
- Sprint IPx Family
We can provide custom integration with your existing equipment such as public address
systems, two-way radios, intercom systems, alarm systems, and more.
Important functionality to consider and questions to ask when selecting a telephone
system and paging system include:
Does background music cease playing when someone is paging?
Can telephone speakers and paging speakers be accessed at the same time?
Can different zones of speakers be defined so warehouse paging doesn't unnecessarily
interrupt the front office?
Can paging be accomplished over a network to a remote site?
Does the telephone system have page queues for each user so pages are kept short and don't
have to be repeated?
Does the paging system have an anti-feedback feature to prevent audio feedback for
telephones near horns?
Does the paging system support "talk back" so a person being paged can respond
hands free?
Does the paging system support telephone night ringing?
Does the paging system support connection to the fire alarm or other emergency systems?

Inputs for
telephone line and background music
Automatic level

Signal-activated
music muting circuit
Overview
The TPU-15A is a 15-watt, wall-mounting amplifier specifically designed for
telephone paging applications. It incorporates state-of-the-art electronics to provide
voice-activated muting of music when paging, completely eliminating the need for manual
activation switches or external relays. In addition, the unit has a night-ringer feature
that can be used to alert personnel of an incoming call during non-business hours.
The paging channel features automatic level control to maintain a constant output even
when persons with varying voice levels and paging techniques have access to the system.
Inputs are provided for a 600 W balanced telephone line, a background music source and
dry contacts which, when closed, trigger the night ringer. Screwdriver-adjustable controls
are provided for page, night ringer and music volume. A tone control, LED overload
indicator, Lo-cut filter and push-to-reset circuit breaker are also provided.
Output terminals offer a choice of 25 volts, 70 volts or 8 W for connection of various
types of loudspeakers

Overview
The TPU-B Series are state-of-the-art telephone paging amplifiers.
The paging channel is signal-activated and automatically mutes background music when
paging from a telephone. The muting level of music during a page is adjustable, and the
music gradually returns to its normal level after a page. The paging channel also has a
VOX sensitivity adjustment to eliminate transmission of background noise, and features
automatic output leveling to maintain constant output.
The TPU-B series incorporates the Aphex® Aural Exciter circuit to regenerate the
harmonics lost during the amplification process, resulting in increased presence and
clarity, increased intelligibility, greater perceived loudness (with no increase in
power), and reduced listener fatigue.
Input terminals are furnished for a telephone line and Lo-Z balanced microphone.
Terminals are provided for music mute (during microphone page), and for activation of the
night ringer. Jacks are also provided to bridge two TPU-B amplifiers to double the number
of inputs and outputs.
Balanced or unbalanced outputs are available for 16 W, 25V,
25VCT, 70V, and 100V speaker lines. Provision is included to feed a 600 W telephone line, LO-Z input or balanced Mic input of another
amplifier, using an accessory transformer (Model WMT-1A). Front panel controls are
provided to set telephone and mic page volume, music volume, night ringer volume, VOX
sensitivity, music mute level, bass and treble levels, ALC, VOX sensitivity and Aphex
effect.

maintained at the telephone. Screwdriver-adjustable controls are provided to adjust
switching sensitivity, switching delay time and loudspeaker and handset volume. The
amplifier includes a 600 ohm transformer-coupled telephone line input, 25V/70V
constant-voltage outputs and mute terminals to facilitate unidirectional paging. The
amplifier is easily installed on a backboard or in standard 19 equipment rack.

Uses paging or

Cancel page
feature
Selectable pre
and post-page alert tones
Overview
Even the best paging systems can experience feedback. Now you can eliminate
annoying feedback over your paging speakers with the FBI-1A digital anti-feedback paging
interface. The FBI-1A utilizes state of the art digital recording technology to record the
"live" page from a phone system's paging port output or unused trunk port. The
FBI-1A then immediately plays back the recorded page once or twice (selectable) over the
paging system.
Pages up to 16 seconds (expandable to 60 seconds) can be stored and the FBI-1A
automatically adjusts to the page length for faster processing. In addition, the FBI-1A
can be programmed to provide pre-page and post-page alert tones.
Eliminates feedback in warehouses, factories, stores, hotels, airports, and other large
noisy areas.
